Biden is trusted more on COVID, Trump is trusted more on the stock market, but the candidates are tied on their handling of the economy according to a new Fortune|Surveymonkey poll.
- Compared to last month, confidence that former VP Joe Biden would do a better job as president than Trump when it comes to handling the coronavirus pandemic ticked up 5 points leaving a majority of Americans (56%) backing Biden for handling COVID-19.
- Yet, when it comes to the economy, where just 32% of Americans rate the current state of the economy positively, the margin is much narrower on who would handle the U.S. economy better as president; just 48% align with Biden and 46% with Trump.
- It is those exact issues, “coronavirus response” and “the economy”, that are competing for the top cited issue most important to Americans in the upcoming November election. Fully 24% cite the economy and 22%, coronavirus response, with all other issues listed receiving 12% or single-digit support.
