How Can I Copy My Survey? Ask a Survey Expert!

Dear SurveyMonkey Expert,

I sent out a survey last year and I want to keep those responses, but I need to make changes to the survey design. It says I can’t change the survey questions once I have responses collected! Is there a way for me to copy the survey and create a new version? Will the data copy over?  I’d love to get your expertise on this!

Copy-crazed,

Gordon

Hey there, Gordon!

Copying your survey is a great way to keep your current survey and it’s responses intact. It’s a quick and easy process. All you need to do to get started is click that handy Create Survey button in the top right of your account.

Once there, you’ll see an option to ‘Copy an Existing Survey’. Go ahead and pick the survey you want to copy! You can give it a brand new name, or leave it as it is. It’s good you asked about copying the responses. This feature will only copy the survey design. This means that the collectors and data from last year’s survey will remain on your original design.

It’s as simple as that, Gordon! You now have a brand spankin’ new survey design to jazz up. Hopefully you’re feeling a bit more copy-happy, and a little less copy-crazed. Happy surveying!

Best wishes,

Your friendly SurveyMonkey Expert

How can I copy my survey so it is sent from a new email address?
A !!new user, I played around with setting up a survey and creating the message etc which was linked to my personal email address. I now want to send out the survey but I do not want the survey to go out from my email address, rather the residents association address. Do I have to create a new account with Survey Monkey and do up survey again creating link to correct email address?

Second question – how do I import 200 email addresses to the recipient list? ( actually, how can I import 1 ? I presume if I can do 1 , I can do 200 !!! Then again, me , the dumb user strikes again!

      Hey there, Joan!

First question: You can change the email address connected to your account very easily. Here’s how: http://help.surveymonkey.com/articles/en_US/kb/How-do-I-change-the-username-email-address-on-the-account

Second question: On a free account, you can import a maximum of 100 email addresses. On a paid (professional) account, you can import up to 10,000! Here’s how: http://help.surveymonkey.com/articles/en_US/kb/How-do-I-import-my-email-addresses-to-create-a-distribution-list

      Hope this helps,

Can I merge (via SM and not exporting and manipulating) existing data collected from one survey, with the same questions asked for a second later survey?

    1. kaytek says:

Hi Nik! Great question but unfortunately we don’t offer this feature quite yet. We do have a few workarounds: http://help.surveymonkey.com/articles/en_US/kb/Can-I-combine-or-merge-multiple-surveys-into-one
