Fortune|SurveyMonkey poll: airlines and travel

Southwest Airlines has the best brand among the major airlines, according to a new Fortune|SurveyMonkey poll. A solid majority of the public (61%) has a favorable view of the company while just 15% have an unfavorable view, giving it a net favorable rating of +45.

Delta (+40), American Airlines (+36), United Airlines (+29), Alaska Airlines (+24), JetBlue (+18), and Frontier (+2) are viewed less favorably in the American public's view. Spirit Airlines does worst of all; it is the only airline included that has a net unfavorable view (-12).

Other noteworthy data:

  • 5% of people fly once a month or more for either work or personal reasons
  • 27% of people are planning to fly or have already flown internationally in 2020
  • 36% say they’re likely to intentionally reduce the amount of air travel they do in the next 12 months to help curb climate change
  •  Just 9% of people say their own air travel has a serious impact on climate change, while 16% say it has a moderate impact, 30% say it has a minor impact, and a plurality (43%) say it has no impact at all
  • 44% say they’re less likely to travel internationally as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, but more (51%) say their plans to travel internationally have not been affected by the outbreak
