Fortune|SurveyMonkey Poll: March 2021

In a new Fortune|SurveyMonkey poll, we find that, by and large, 84% of Americans view the U.S. as a capitalist nation, though it is mainly men and the older generations who tend to have a rosier view of the economic system.

  • 76% of seniors 65+ have positive impressions of capitalism
  • Just 56% of younger adults (18-24 year-olds) share this view
  • 42% of men have a “very positive” impression of capitalism
  • 18% of women share this impression

Younger Americans are more open to socialism than their older counterparts, but many don't know enough about the system to have an opinion. 

  • 37% of 25-34 year olds prefer socialism, just 15% among 65+ 
  • 35% of 18-24 year olds and 38% of 35-44 year olds don’t know enough to say

Video streaming services update

As workplaces are opening back up and shutdown restrictions lifting, streaming services usage today looks much more like pre-pandemic times. 

  • 29% watching everyday, down from 46% who were streaming daily in September
  • 24% streaming several times a week.

Specific video streaming services are back to where they were in pre-pandemic times.

  • Netflix still reigns supreme with 62% currently using the platform. (-14 pt. from Sept. 2020).
  • Amazon in the second place with 52% using the service (-9pts. from Sept. 2020)
  • The newer platforms, HBO Max and NBCUniversal’s Peacock remained about the same
