The Municipality of the County of Inverness is undertaking a comprehensive review of the current governance and district boundaries. A district is a geographical division of a city, town or municipality for administrative or political purposes. A governance and district boundaries review is a task conducted on behalf of a municipality to assess whether the present electoral structure and districts constitute an effective, equitable and democratic system of representation and, if not, to propose alternatives.
The overall objective of this review is to establish fair and equitable representation of the residents at the council table. The county’s demographics are shifting, and settlement patterns are changing. Have things changed enough within the Municipality of the County of Inverness that the electoral districts need to be adjusted?
The Municipality of the County of Inverness is committed to involving citizens, businesses and stakeholders in conversations about municipal decisions that interest and/or impact them, including this governance and district boundary review. Due to COVID-19, engagement needs to be socially distanced, so this review relies additionally on online participation like this survey.
This survey is important because it will help the consultants to understand which preliminary options are preferred and why. Your wisdom and insight will enable the consulting team to provide thoughtful recommendations to your Council. All the preliminary options presented can be considered as viable but none of them are perfect. Your input can improve an option.
The survey is quite short and will take less than 10 minutes to complete and will be available until December 5th, 2022. Please share it with friends, family, and neighbours.
To help you prepare to answer this survey and understand the changes being discussed, there are informative and interactive maps and other materials that can be found on
The preliminary district boundary alternatives developed by the consultant team and contained in this survey will be explained and discussed during 5 (4 in person and 1 virtual) public consultation sessions. If possible, please attend these sessions and ask lots of questions.
