The Government of Ontario has introduced legislation changing how blue box materials are managed and collected in Ontario.

The Town of Hanover will be transitioning our blue box program, like all municipalities, by the end of December 2025 to a new collection model aligning with the Blue Box Regulation made under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act is a key part of the province's Strategy for a Waste Free Ontario: Building the Circular Economy.

As of January 1st, 2026, industrial, commercial, and institutional properties will no longer have blue box service. These properties will be responsible for making arrangements to have their recycling collected. More complete details about these changes are available on our Blue Box Program Change webpage.

NOTE: If you currently do not receive blue box collection through curbside pick-up because you have a contractor providing these services, the transition should not have an effect on you. You should confirm with your contractor that they will be able to continue this service following the transition in 2026.
