Purpose: Tribal health teams who would like to or are currently providing treatment for patients with opioid use disorder are invited to register for a two-day orientation and training with the didgʷálič immersion program. The training will be structured with the first half of each day being held at the Swinomish Casino and Lodge in Anacortes, Washington, followed by afternoons spent observing and interacting with the clinicians and staff at the didgʷálič Wellness Center.

Although Indian Country as a whole currently lacks the resources to fully address the opioid crisis, many tribal governments have begun to institute promising solutions that could be expanded upon as well as serve as models for other Tribes. The didgʷálič model illustrates the kinds of tribally driven solutions that could be most impactful. The purpose of the immersion training is to share a model other tribes could potentially replicate to help them address the opioid epidemic and offer tools as well as ongoing support for clinicians to effectively integrate opioid use disorder (OUD) services in their local community. The immersion program will offer tribes and clinicians serving American Indian and Alaska Native people a two day training to replicate the model, or integrate components of the model in their local communities, as there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution for Indian Country.

Who should attend: Teams that will be considered are those who are in a position to champion change at their tribe and provide care to patients with opioid use disorder within the primary care, behavioral health or opioid treatment program setting. Team members might include: Leadership (e.g. tribal health directors, council members, and administrators), clinicians (prescribing MD/DO/NP/PA, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, nurse care managers, behavioral health specialists) and quality improvement specialists.

A limited number of teams will be selected to participate in the training. There will be a maximum number of participants at each training, based on interest level and geographic distribution throughout Indian Country.
