Invitation to shape our bargaining: UTFA Survey

Welcome to UTFA’s Bargaining Survey. Your responses will help shape our priorities as we prepare for the upcoming round of negotiations, i.e. for the July 1, 2026-June 30, 2027 agreement.

Note: Neither our e-blast software nor our survey software program will be used by UTFA to track your identity (e.g., your email address). Further, only the UTFA Negotiating Team will have access to any disaggregated data or any personal data you may choose to share.
1.What issues, concerns, or proposals are most important to you in this round of negotiations? (Describe up to 3)
2.What aspects of your working conditions (also known as your “terms and conditions of employment”) do you especially want to be maintained, added to, or strengthened?* (Describe up to 3)

*As a reminder, during the most recent (2023-2026) round of salary, benefits, and workload negotiations, the mandate set by UTFA Council prioritized the following issues (not in rank order): Expanding the investment in PTR; fair compensation; workload relief; members’ rights (e.g., job security, improved accommodation processes); dispute resolution; and benefits improvements (see the next question). To be reminded of the improvements UTFA’s Team achieved on your behalf, see here and here.
3.During the 2023 - 2026 round of salary, benefits and workload negotiations, UTFA prioritized the following principles for benefits improvements:
  1. Making improvements for members, taking into account how their needs change across their lifespan (i.e., early career/young family (e.g., orthodontia), mid-career (e.g., eyeglasses), and older/retired members (e.g., major dental));
  2. Making improvements where UTFA members’ benefits are well below the sector norms or the high cost of living in the GTA (e.g., hearing aids, dispensing fees, Long Term Disability, Life Insurance);
  3. Prioritizing other issues of particular importance to our members (e.g., protecting retirees’ equal access to health benefits, mental health benefits);
  4. Protecting the value of the benefits and reforming the system to make it more open and transparent to allow us to make improvements in future (e.g., reasonable and customary, the Greenshield appeals process);
  5. Ensuring equitable consideration of diverse family configurations and responsibilities of our membership (e.g., single members with no dependents; members with dependent children, spouses/partners, and elders, etc.
Is there any additional benefits principle that you would like to add?
