Thank you for your interest in the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Suicide Prevention Clinical ECHO!

Project ECHO® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is an innovative hub and spoke program, designed to create knowledge networks by connecting health care providers with an expert team through a tele- mentoring program using brief lectures and case‐based presentations. These networks have been shown to increase capacity for health care providers to identify, treat, and manage patient care. Using basic, widely available teleconferencing technology, clinical management tools, and case‐based learning, health care providers develop knowledge and self‐efficacy on techniques for management of care and quality improvement. A 1-hour ECHO session consists of a short lecture (approx. 10-15 minutes) followed by a case or scenario-based presentation (5 minutes) and discussion. More information about ECHO may be found at www.aap.org/projectecho.

The AAP and AFSP are recruiting pediatric health professionals to join an 8-month learning collaborative for suicide prevention.  The goal of this program is to increase participant knowledge and self-efficacy regarding best practices to identify and support youth and young adults at risk for suicide. All ECHO sessions will occur virtually using Zoom and will take place monthly for 60 minutes from July 2023 through February 2024. The ECHO sessions will occur the third Friday of each month at 10am PT/11am MT/12pm CT/1pm ET.

All ECHO sessions occur virtually using Zoom video conference technology. Participants are expected to join using video as this makes for a more interactive and impactful session. Only the lecture presentations are recorded for both synchronous and asynchronous observations.

To increase equity among practices who can participate and access this important information, two tracks are available:
Track 1: Eight (8) monthly educational ECHO sessions (Also encouraged to attend additional quality improvement ECHO sessions)
Track 2: Eight (8) monthly educational ECHO sessions plus up to four (4) quality improvement ECHO sessions, applying QI methodology through monthly chart review, PDSA cycles and QI coaching.
