YACWA is looking for 2 young people to join the Youth Homelessness Advisory Council! This is a paid opportunity until May 2025, where you will be paid as a casual YACWA staff member for attendance at monthly meetings and for your work on project activities. One of the positions is a designated 50D role, open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

What is YHAC?
The Youth Homelessness Advisory Council (YHAC) is a WA youth-led advocacy group for young people with lived experience of homelessness and housing instability.

We aim to better understand the experiences of young people experiencing homelessness and housing instability and advocate for better services and system change.

What is involved with being a member of YHAC?
- Attending monthly meetings (either online or in-person)
- Connecting with other young people with lived experience who are passionate about making change
- Informing the project activities by sharing your experiences (in a safe, trauma-informed space where you choose how much you share)
- Providing feedback and advice to youth homelessness services in Perth
- Building relationships with key decision makers and Government
- Developing helpful resources for other young people experiencing homelessness and housing instability, services, and the wider community
- Participating in training and developing new skills
- You may also have the opportunity to talk about your experiences at meetings with government and youth organisations (if you want to)

What are the benefits?
This is a paid, casual position. You will be on the SCHADS Award at level 1.1, $31.76 per hour. You will also receive training and experience in a supportive work environment.

Who is eligible?
- Young people aged 16 to 25;
- Have current or past lived experience of youth homelessness or housing instability (this includes couch surfing, living in supported accommodation, street presence, living in your car or hotels, and more);
- Able to commit to monthly meetings (most of the time);
- Be able to commit to 80 hours of work over the year;
- Willing to apply for a Working with Children Check - we will pay for this;
- Willing to apply for a National Police Clearance – we will pay for this (please note a recorded conviction will not automatically exclude you from employment with YACWA);
