Thank you for participating in our 3rd annual Winter Reading Challenge, this year sponsored by Penguin Random House (PRH)! Here are some additional details. Please let us know if your library will participate by completing this final, quick 4-question survey.

  • Challenge Dates: The reading challenge will run from January 1 to January 31st, 2020. Your library/school may still elect to do its own winter reading program for an overlapping period of time. For example, you may choose to run your program from December 1 to January 31 or from January 1 to February 28. For the purposes of the nationwide challenge, we'll count the logging that happens at your library during the period from January 1-31 in a spirit of collaboration between libraries. We chose this January period as it had the most overlap between libraries and also as a time when we may better be able to attract media attention.
  • Prizes: PRH will donate $50,000 in prizes to top participating libraries/schools if all participating libraries reach a designated collective goal. We'll determine the exact goal once we know how many libraries are participating. Details on what specific prizes are and how winners will be determined are forthcoming.
  • Logging By Books or Minutes:  Libraries/schools may choose to design their reading programs at least partly around logging books or minutes. For those participating, we will activate the Winter Reading Challenge template options on your site. You may of course edit and update the milestones associated with the badges for the template.
  • Points, Activities, and Reviews: Whether to include points, activities, and reviews in how your library designs this reading challenge is entirely up to your library or school. We will not set any goals for these items in relationship to the overall program -- only some designated goals for total minutes and total books read.
Please complete this survey to let us know definitively if your library or school will participate.

We'll next share with you an updated Winter Reading launch kit, including badges, marketing materials, and press outreach. Thank you again for your interest and, as always, for being our partner.
