Objective of the support fund: This fund has been established by the USAID Alumni Association (UAA) to provide financial assistance to eligible former USAID staff to help cover immediate and emergency expenses such as medical costs, housing, relocation, childcare/eldercare, job search, and transportation. The fund is administered by the Greater Washington Community Foundation (GWCF).

Description: The fund currently supports a grant program to assist eligible former USAID employees in meeting urgent needs. A second intended component of the program, a loan guarantee component, is under discussion with a local financial institution but has not yet been approved. Under the grant component, $2000 will be available to each approved applicant based upon meeting the objectives of and eligibility for the program, on funding availability, and on selection through the application review process. While there will be no federal or state tax withholding on UAA approved grants, applicants should be aware that grants may be subject to federal/state/local income tax.

Additional considerations

We are focused on assisting those most in need, and likely will not have sufficient funds for all eligible ex-USAID employees. All applicants are requested to consider whatever sources of income or access to savings they have in applying for access to this fund. We also encourage everyone to apply for unemployment benefits.

If you are equivalent to an FS1/GS15 or SFS/SES, you will have to explain in the intended use / special circumstances box to be considered for a grant.

If you are eligible for an annuity or social security and expect related payments to begin within two months, you will need to explain in the intended use / special circumstances box to be considered for a grant.
