Cape May County has initiated a Local Concept Development (LCD) Study for the replacement of the County Route 619 (Ocean Drive) Bridge over Townsend's Inlet (Structure No. 3100-003) (Townsend's Inlet Bridge) connecting Sea Isle City and the Borough of Avalon. This bridge is an important transportation connection for residents, business owners, and visitors.
This LCD Study will focus on developing alternatives for bridge replacement while considering the ecologically sensitive resources located in the study area. Major milestones to be achieved during the study include an analysis of existing conditions, alternatives analysis, and the selection of a Preliminary Preferred Alternative.
To verify the needs of existing and projected maritime users, Cape May County is requesting input regarding your or your organization’s needs related to the Townsend's Inlet navigation channel in the vicinity of the Townsend's Inlet Bridge.
Information obtained in the questionnaire will be used to complete a Maritime Navigation Evaluation required by the US Coast Guard, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and other public review agencies to better understand what impact the Townsend's Inlet Bridge improvements may have on river navigation.
The questionnaire is entirely voluntary, and no individual responses will be shared with the general public. Information you choose to share will not be released to the general public; all data will be used and distributed in summary form only. Attachments may be used to answer questions, as you find appropriate.
Questions 1-22 are for all maritime users of the Townsend's Inlet Bridge and channel.
Questions 23-31 pertain only to operators of large commercial freight, fishing or passenger vessels/service.
Please complete the survey by no later than November 12, 2025. Cape May County thanks you for your input.
