In 2020, there was an increase of 6,000 workers within the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region leaving the workforce compared to 2019. These are persons who left the workforce and are not actively looking for work, or may have left to pursue other opportunities. This has left some of the industries in our communities facing critical labour shortages due to the lack of workers.
