2020 Guidelines

The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County believes that a strong arts and cultural sector actively contributes to the economic vitality and is central to a strong quality of life of the community. The global pandemic, COVID-19, threatens the stability of our economy and our way of life. In response, the Cultural Council created the PALM BEACH COUNTY ARTIST RELIEF FUND to support Palm Beach County creative professionals (artists in music, theatre, dance, literature, and the visual arts) whose creative work has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Grant amounts are available at $500, $250, and $100.

ARTIST RELIEF FUND grants are available for eligible applications with no set deadline beginning April 6, 2020. Eligible artists are limited to one ARTIST RELIEF FUND grant. The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County is committed to funding as many affected artists as possible and will allocate $10,000 of funds awarded to the Cultural Council by the Great Charity Challenge 2020 toward these grants, with additional dollars generated through an online fundraising campaign. The ARTIST RELIEF FUND will continue as long as funds are available.
Who is eligible:
  • Creative professionals with a demonstrable exhibition, publishing, or performance history that clearly indicates an active and sustained career in the fields of dance, theatre, music, literature, and the visual arts.
  • Palm Beach County residents only.
Who is not eligible:
  • Artists who are enrolled in a degree or certificate-granting program of any kind at the time of application. Applications will not be accepted before graduation date.
  • Artists working full-time as teaching staff at a college or university at the time of application are not eligible for the ARTIST RELIEF FUND.

  • Fee coverage for cancelled performances.
  • Fee coverage for performances the artist turned down due to health concerns related to COVID-19 (immunocompromised artists, caregiver artists, etc.).
  • Funding for cancelled exhibitions, art or craft shows, or other art-related events.
  • Funding for cancelled art-related speaking fees (visiting artist lectures, presentations, studio visits, critiques).
  • Funding for cancelled non-credit art-related teaching opportunities (workshops, weekly classes). Note: this does not apply to teaching within a K- 12 or higher education institution.
Non-eligible categories include:
  • Regular overhead costs (i.e. studio rent, utilities).
  • Reimbursement for cancelled travel, lodging, and accommodations costs.
  • Costs associated with a commercial photography business.
  • At this time, the ARTIST RELIEF FUND does not cover estimated future lost income.
