NYC DOT is working to redesign the streetscape on Park Avenue from 46th to 57th Street. The current median will expand to create a greener, safer, and more pedestrian friendly corridor.
The opportunity to redesign the corridor comes from the MTA's reconstruction of the Grand Central Terminal Train Shed, located directly below the site area. The Train Shed roof – upon which Park Avenue sits – is over 100 years old and requires repairs to ensure the operations of the trains below. In the coming years as the roof is repaired in phases, Park Avenue will be reconstructed and the medians will be widened.
NYC DOT is gathering public feedback on design concepts and potential design elements, such as plantings, seating, and pedestrian and bicycling spaces. We invite you to share input on how to make this space more accessible and vibrant by taking this survey.
