In January 2019, the American Library Association (ALA) on behalf of its members adopted “sustainability” as a core value of librarianship. To be truly sustainable, a community must embody practices that are environmentally sound AND economically feasible AND socially equitable. Our Planet: EARTH focuses on Earth science and citizen science opportunities during April 2020 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Earth DaySTAR Net invites libraries and their communities to participate in this important event by utilizing all of our programming resources.

Libraries who are interested in getting important news and resources for their April 2020 Earth programs, can register to qualify for the benefits listed below.
  • A monthly newsletter announcing new resources and opportunities
  • Our website curated with the best resources (we search so you don’t have to!)
  • Library representation on STAR Net‘s Our Planet: EARTH Map
  • Automatic entry for a chance to win Scholastic Earth Science books, NASA Earth science tactile books, and more! The first 2,000 registrants will receive the popular ‘Planets to Planets’ game, developed by the STAR Net team (it’s like Apples to Apples)
  • An opportunity to qualify for another free game (see Community Dialogues).

* 3. Will your library be conducting a Community Dialogue in support of your citizen science and Earth programs (around April 2020)?

If you select "Yes" to #3 your library will receive an additional free game (Arctic to Antarctic), but your library will be required to submit a 2 page report (questions provided at a later date by SSI), provide pictures with photo releases, and possibly have staff from the Space Science Institute observe your event. The Community Dialogue is NOT a requirement to receive the Planets to Planets game or be entered in the other drawings.

* 4. Do you agree to complete a brief survey about how you used STAR Net resources in your programming at the conclusion of your citizen science and Earth programs?

Note: By submitting this form you are giving STAR Net permission to list your library's info (library name and web address only) on our Our Planet: EARTH map as a planned participant in our Our Planet: EARTH campaign. Submission of this form also allows us to share your other contact information with NASA representatives and NASA@ My Library Partners who may be able to provide additional resources. This additional contact information will NOT be posted publicly on the website.
