New Greenway: St. Charles Community College to Katy Trail You told us you want a new greenway to connect the Dardenne Greenway at St. Charles Community College to the Katy Trail. Now we need your help to plan it! Thank you to the hundreds of people who shared their ideas during the project kick off in Fall 2022. You told us you want the greenway to: 1. Connect to parks and natural areas2. Avoid high traffic roads when possible 3. Inspire people to get outside4. Connect to unique local destinations5. Prioritize safety6. Accommodate people of all ages and abilitiesYour input on this survey will help determine the final greenway route. Thank you for taking 5 minutes to share your ideas! For more information about this project and to watch a presentation that explains each potential greenway route, please visit: greatriversgreenway.org/new-greenwayNote: Cell phone users may need to zoom in on the maps to see them clearly. Optional: Is there anything else you would like to tell us about the potential northern routes? OK Question Title * 10. This "New Greenway" needs a name! You told us you want the greenway to be named after a natural feature. Which natural feature do you hope will be incorporated into the name of the new greenway? (Check all that you like.) Baltic Creek: Creek from Veterans Tribute Park to Dardenne Creek, east of Mid Rivers Mall Dr (behind the businesses) Baltic Ridge: A prominent ridge separates the Baltic Creek Watershed from the Missouri River Watershed. The ridge intersects Pitman Hill Rd near Windcastle Dr and intersects Towers Rd near Jacobs Station Rd. Ridgeline: A major ridgeline intersects this future greenway. Rain that falls north of the ridgeline will drain north toward Dardenne Creek. Rain that falls south of the ridgeline will drain south toward the Missouri River. This ridgeline runs east-to-west for many miles through St. Charles County. Upland: Upland woodland occurs in parts of this area where drainage is sufficient, so soils do not become saturated for extended periods of time. This is a great environment for native trees, such as oak, hickory, sassafras, pawpaw, dogwood, and hophornbeam. Post Oak: A native tree that commonly grows in upland woodlands. Post Oaks can live 300 years or more. Its acorns are eaten by birds, squirrels, and other animals. The wood has been used for railroad ties and fence posts, hence the name. Dogwood: The Flowering Dogwood is Missouri’s official state tree. It provides beautiful fall color and lovely spring flowers. Mayapple: A native Missouri wildflower that makes its biggest impression with its leaves, which resemble umbrellas arising from a single stalk. It often grows in colonies. I have another suggestion of a natural feature! (Please tell us!) OK Question Title * 11. Do you have any concerns about the greenway? No Yes (please specify) OK Question Title * 12.
