National Coaches Survey: Building Safer Sport Together Introduction:The goal of this survey is to gain a better understanding of the perspectives and experiences of athletic coaches in the United States. For the purposes of this survey, coaches are considered anyone in a role involving the direction, instruction, and training of a sport team or athlete. This survey is not intended for sport medicine trainers, sport administrators, or those involved in other roles in sport unless they also perform coaching duties. If you are 18 years of age or over and have coached any sport in the United States anytime within the past five years, we encourage you to take this survey no later than November 12, 2025, to help us to shed light on these important topics. The survey covers topics related to coach satisfaction, burnout, safety culture, norms and behaviors, as well as abuse and misconduct. We want to hear from a range of coaches, including head coaches, assistant coaches, and specialty coaches or instructors in any sport. We also want to hear from coaches involved in all levels of play, from community recreational athletics to nationally and internationally competitive programs. This survey is being conducted to support the work of the U.S. Center for SafeSport (the Center), which is an independent nonprofit committed to building a national sport culture that is free of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse and misconduct. Your input on this survey will help inform the Center’s efforts to promote safe and supportive environments where all sport participants, including coaches and athletes, can thrive. Your survey responses will be completely anonymous. We will not be gathering your name or any other identifiable information. No individual responses from this survey will be shared; rather, they will be reported in aggregate along with the responses from other coaches across the country. We recognize that the topic of abuse may be challenging or upsetting. If you would like to receive support, call RAINN’s national sexual assault hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or visit online.rainn.org. This survey is NOT a way to report abuse or misconduct to the Center or any other authority. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the Center’s reporting requirements and make a report to the Center if you know of or suspect sexual, emotional, or physical abuse that falls under its jurisdiction. To learn more or make a report, visit: uscenterforsafesport.org/report-a-concern/.This survey is entirely voluntary, and there will be no penalty if you decide not to take the survey or if you stop taking the survey at any time. You may also skip questions if you would like (with one exception), although we encourage you to answer as many as you can. The only question on this survey that cannot be skipped is the first one, which asks you which sport you have been most involved in as a coach in the past five years. The estimated time to complete this survey is approximately 20 minutes. Your voice is incredibly valuable and we deeply appreciate your time spent on this survey.Questions: Please contact the Center’s external research consultant for this project, Erin McConnell, if you have any questions about the survey, trouble accessing this survey, or need accommodations.
