Investigating Patient Perspectives on Transferring PGT-M Positive/Affected Embryos

We're studying why some patients who use PGT-M transfer/consider transferring embryos that are affected/positive and why some patients ultimately decide against transferring an affected embryo. Our anonymous survey focuses only on those who have used PGT-M (with or without PGT-A). We are not seeking participants who have undergone PGT-A only, PGT-SR only, or those who declined PGT-M. We will ask questions about your experience with PGT-M and embryo transfer decisions.

Background information: Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is a form of testing used in IVF to screen embryos for genetic abnormalities. There are three main forms of PGT: PGT-A for aneuploidy, PGT-SR for structural rearrangements, and PGT-M for monogenic conditions.

PGT-A involves screening an embryo to ensure it has the typical number of chromosomes. If an embryo has the typical number, it is euploid. If the embryo has extra or missing chromosomes, it is aneuploid. PGT-SR screens embryos for structural abnormalities in the chromosomes.

PGT-M is used to screen embryos for monogenic conditions, or genetic diseases/disorders that are caused by a single gene change, or mutation. Examples of single-gene disorders include sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, and polycystic kidney disease. PGT-M is used to mitigate risk of future children being affected by the condition the parent(s) carry or have.

Purpose of Study: As PGT-M continues to be used more frequently and for many different types of genetic conditions with varying levels of severity, age-of-onset, symptoms, and other factors, some patients have transferred embryos identified as being positive for a monogenic condition, despite undergoing PGT-M for that very condition. We aim through our IRB-approved survey to identify the specific factors influencing a patient’s decision to transfer/a hypothetical decision to transfer a PGT-M positive/affected embryo.

All participants who qualify to participate and fully complete the survey will be entered in a raffle to win a $50 Amazon gift card as a thank you for your participation. Qualifying survey participants have used PGT-M and have transferred or considered transferring a PGT-M positive embryo. Three of the participants will be randomly selected at the end of our data collection phase and will be awarded a gift card.

NOTE: THE SURVEY IS ANONYMOUS -- IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ENTER THE GIFT CARD RAFFLE WHEN YOU COMPLETE THE SURVEY, PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS
