Introduction to the Survey
What is this survey about?
We would like to invite you to take part in a research study exploring your views of greyhound racing in England. This is to better understand the public perception and knowledge of the greyhound racing industry in England.
Participation in the study is entirely voluntary and declining to participate will not disadvantage you in any way. Please read the information below before deciding whether or not to take part.
Who is eligible to take part?
· You must be 18 years or older
· You must be a current resident of England
· We welcome responses from people with any level of experience, involvement and/or knowledge about greyhound racing, including those with none.
What will taking part involve?
This will involve completing an online questionnaire which will take approximately 10 minutes. This includes a series of questions about your experiences, knowledge and opinions of the greyhound racing industry in England.
In addition, we will ask questions about your own background (e.g., age, gender, education, whether you were born in the UK, employment in the canine/animal care sector), as from other studies these factors are recognised to influence attitudes towards gambling, greyhound racing and/or animal welfare more generally. Responding to these questions is entirely optional. These data will only be reported in aggregated form.
This project has been approved by the Royal Veterinary College Social Science Research Ethical Review Board (URN SR2025-01652407).
Is it an anonymous study?
Yes, this is an anonymous study. No personally identifying information will be collected as part of this survey. Some of the questions have written free-text responses. Direct quotes may be taken from these responses in reporting: please do not provide any information in your written responses that might identify you or someone else.
What if I change my mind about taking part?
You can leave the survey at any time before submitting the survey and your answers will not be used. However, once you have submitted your answers, they cannot be removed as all data is anonymous.
What will happen as a result of the study?
Your answers in this survey will be used to evaluate knowledge and attitudes towards the greyhound racing industry in England. The data will be analysed as part of a research project undertaken by the Royal Veterinary College. The findings may be presented or published, however all data will be in an aggregated format, and no personally identifying information will be collected.
Direct quotes from your written responses may be used in reporting, but care will be taken to ensure that these do not risk identifying any individual person. Only the named researchers and their research team will have access to these data.
