What’s this about?
Flinders Zero Carbon Community is actively working with the Metro Community Power Hub to assess interest in a community battery in Flinders prior to a feasibility study this year.
Flinders conducted a survey in 2021 which identified community support for a community battery locally. You can find out more about Community Batteries here.
Community batteries make renewable energy more accessible to individual households, by allowing excess solar power to be shared amongst households including apartment dwellings and rental properties.
Increasing battery storage will:
- Cut power bills for households by taking advantage of inexpensive and renewable solar energy that can be stored and used at peak times;
- Cut emissions By increasing the total use of renewable energy;
- Reduce pressure on the grid by reducing community reliance on the grid at peak times.
Why are we collecting this information?
This questionnaire provides a brief overview of key issues about community batteries and presents a series of questions for residents in order to gauge interest in participating in a community battery project in the Shire of Flinders. The questionnaire gives you an opportunity to be involved and have a say in the development of this exciting initiative.  To get the best outcome that suits the needs of the residents of Flinders, we need to understand what the opportunities, drivers and challenges are in our area.
