Host Sign-Up, Fall 2026

Host a Common Room

Fall 2026 CRs will take place on the weeks beginning October 5, October 19, November 2, November 16, November 30, December 14
CR hosts will:
  • Send a welcome email/recurring calendar invite, and a reminder to your group (templates provided by the YIA).
  • Initiate the conversation and give everyone a chance to speak.
  • Be ready to start with a new subject if discussion flags.
  • Serve as a sounding board for group members, and share feedback or issues with the YIA, including any issues violating the YIA Community Guidelines.
  • Arrange for a substitute host in case you are unable to attend a session.
  • Keep track of attrition/schedule changes, and fill out a YIA feedback survey periodically.
Please note: you must be a Yale alumni of some kind to participate in the Common Rooms programme.

6.If you are interested in hosting a Themed CR, what title/theme would you like to host? This is the title we will use to advertise your CR.
7.If you are interested in hosting a Themed CR, please provide a 2-3 sentences explaining the theme to help participants decide to sign up to your themed CR. This text will go out to participants to entice them to sign up, so it needs to be complete.
8.Please indicate the day of the week and New Haven time you would like to host your CR. To get the cycle up and running as smoothly as possible, please indicate a specific day and time (i.e. Thursdays at 1pm New Haven time) rather than a broad range, to help participants sign up. If we think there might be challenges in getting participants for the time you have selected, we will get in touch!

Yale has alumni all over the world, in every time zone. Participants are most likely to have time at the weekend. Thursdays have also worked for some CRs.

A starting time between 8am and 11am New Haven (EST) time can work for participants on the US east coast, and in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. A starting time from 11am-2pm New Haven is usually better for US West Coast participants. Early morning in New Haven (e.g. 6am) can work well for East Asia and Oceania. A New Haven evening time around 8pm will work for participants on both US coasts and be 8am in Beijing (although not in much of the rest of the world).(Required.)
