Ards and North Down Borough Council
Ards and North Down Borough Council is developing an Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy 2027-2031 and Action Plan for 2027 – 2028.
The Council wishes to take the opportunity to develop a programme of activity which meets the current and emerging needs of our communities in creating a changed society where women and girls are free from all forms of gender-based violence, abuse and harm.
We want to contribute to the delivery of The Northern Ireland Strategic Framework for Ending Violence Against Women and Girls which has 4 key themes:
1. Prevention: Changed Attitudes, Behaviours & Culture.
2. Protection & Provision: Quality frontline services, protection, and provision for victims and survivors of violence against women and girls.
3. Justice System: A justice system which has the confidence of victims, survivors, and the public in its ability to address violence against women and girls.
4. Working better Together: All of government and society working better together to end violence against women and girls.
To effect change the Councils supports the ethos of collaboration with our community organisations and key statutory agencies.
TEO, as the funder, has asked Council to focus on Theme 1 – Prevention and we will support the efforts of key agencies in ensuring effective protection, provision of services for victims and survivors and delivery of justice systems. We want your feedback to make sure that we are targeting our work in this area, and any available funds, in the most effective way.
This work is progressive and seeks to meet emerging issues and challenges. We are happy to take on board comments including any gaps in provision of preventative programmes that we may have missed with previous work in this area.
