Environment Canterbury - Farm Waste

Environment Canterbury is working to improve the management of farm-related waste. The primary goal of this project is to develop more sustainable and convenient alternatives to the use of farm pits, including by making recycling of farm materials accessible for farmers.

To achieve this, we are investigating ways to improve waste management and recycling services in rural areas. Any new services will work alongside existing services, such as those provided by Agrecovery and Plasback schemes, and not replace them (they currently collect plastics including HDPE plastic containers and drums, small LDPE bags, large PP bags, uncontaminated bale wrap, vineyard netting, and silage pit covers).

Your feedback in this survey will help us understand the current barriers to appropriate waste management and gather your thoughts on a proposed pilot service. This will help inform our trial design for an accessible service that meets the needs of the farming community.
