Program Overview
The Urban Conservation and Community Fellowship Program aims to identify high-potential individuals interested in working with community-based, non-profit organizations. Each UCC Fellow will be placed with a non-profit, community partner host organization and develop a twelve (12) month work plan in collaboration with the host, The Conservation Fund, and the UCC Fellowship Advisory Council.

The UCC Fellowship Program will provide full-time experience working at the community-scale, assisting communities in realizing park, trail, or other greenspace visions and related social, economic, and environmental benefits.

Location and Host Organization:
Detroit Hives, Detroit, MI
Strong community engagement and facilitation skills would allow the Fellow to effectively work alongside residents, youth, volunteers, and partners—helping translate community input into on-the-ground action while supporting inclusive, participatory project design.

Experience in gardening, landscape design, and landscape planning would further enhance our capacity to transform blighted vacant lots into thoughtfully designed green spaces that support both people and wildlife.

Technical skills related to seed harvesting, native plant propagation, and pollinator habitat development would be particularly valuable in advancing our environmental stewardship efforts and supporting long-term site sustainability. These skills directly contribute to biodiversity, climate resilience, and the educational components of our work.

Additionally, experience or interest in workforce development training and environmental stewardship education—especially for community members and youth—would strengthen Detroit Hives’ ability to connect conservation work with career pathways.
