National Perception Survey on Attitudes toward Migrant Women in South Africa

Introduction

The Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR), in partnership with UN Women, is conducting a national online survey to better understand how people think and feel about migrant women, as well as issues of safety, violence and social cohesion. The purpose of this survey is to generate a nuanced and evidence-based understanding of public perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs about migrant women in South Africa.

The survey explores how migrant women are viewed within society, including prevailing narratives, stereotypes, and levels of acceptance or exclusion, and how these perceptions vary across different demographic and socio-economic groups. It examines both positive and negative attitudes, as well as the underlying factors shaping them. The findings aim to influence programming that promote social cohesion, gender equality, and the protection of migrant women’s rights in South Africa and inform policy dialogue and advocacy.

Your responses will help us build a clearer picture of everyday experiences and attitudes. The results will be used for research, advocacy and practical programmes aimed at improving safety, dignity and social cohesion for everyone living in South Africa, including migrant women.
