Have your say - Shared houses in Kidderminster

What we're proposing
Wyre Forest District Council is considering new rules for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) in Kidderminster.

What's an HMO?

It's a house or flat shared by 3 or more people who aren't from the same family.

What would change?

Right now, landlords can convert a family home into a shared house without needing our permission. We're proposing to change this, so they'd need to apply for planning permission first. To do this Wyre Forest District Council needs to make a non-immediate Article 4 Direction.

Why do we want to make this change?

It would help us:
  • Understand how many shared houses there are in Kidderminster
  • Make sure there's a good mix of housing types in different areas
  • Check that shared houses are suitable for the people living in them.

You can read more about our proposals when they were considered by our Overview and Scrutiny committee.
