2026 Rising Star

Purpose:
St. Joseph Hospital honors nurses that collectively and collaboratively exhibit the skills, expertise, and personal attributes that enhance to the delivery of exceptional patient care. Nominees demonstrate clinical excellence within their nursing practice and develop innovative approaches that improve patient outcomes. They engage respectfully and professionally with the interdisciplinary team, elevating the nursing profession and consistently embodying the St. Joseph Hospital core values: Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration and Excellence.
The St. Joseph Hospital Rising Star Nursing Award is presented to an early-career nurse who demonstrates exceptional clinical skills, leadership abilities, a strong commitment to professional growth, and a positive influence on patient care and the organization. The nominee consistently delivers high-quality patient care with clinical excellence, employing critical thinking and effective problem-solving skills. Demonstrating leadership potential, the nominee may actively participate in committees, mentor peers, or initiate quality improvement projects. Their dedication to professional development is evident by, but not limited to, the nurse residency program, continuing education, research, advanced practice training, membership in professional organizations, or pursuit of the Professional Recognition for Excellence Program or specialty certification. The nominee consistently exceeds role expectations by fostering positive team dynamics, advocating for patients, and engaging in mission-driven activities, making a meaningful impact on their unit and the organization.
Eligibility: Any nurse at St. Joseph Hospital with less than 2 years' experience in nursing.
Process: Any employee, physician, patient or volunteer may nominate. Recipients will be selected based on evidence provided by completion of the nomination criteria.
Award: Award winners will be announced and presented during Nurses’ Week.
Deadline: All nominations must be received by April 18, 2026.
Instructions: Please cite specific examples including patient and physician comments. Expectation is to have at least 3-4 paragraphs to support this nominee. Failure to provide multiple, specific examples may result in disqualification of nomination.
