2026 Nurse Mentor

Purpose:
St. Joseph Hospital honors nurses that collectively and collaboratively exhibit the skills, expertise, and personal attributes that enhance to the delivery of exceptional patient care. Nominees demonstrate clinical excellence within their nursing practice and develop innovative approaches that improve patient outcomes. They engage respectfully and professionally with the interdisciplinary team, elevating the nursing profession and consistently embodying the St. Joseph Hospital core values: Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration and Excellence.
The Nurse Mentor Award recognizes a positive, experienced, and highly respected member of the professional nursing community who serves as a trusted role model and resource for others. This nurse provides meaningful guidance in clinical practice, personal growth, and professional career development. Their insight, advice, and direction are actively sought and deeply valued by colleagues. The nominee communicates effectively and collaborates seamlessly with the multidisciplinary care team. They demonstrate leadership through involvement in staff orientation, committees, councils, and departmental initiatives. These qualities are reflected not only within the nursing profession but also through their contributions to the broader community, exemplifying excellence in mentorship and professional practice.
Eligibility: Any nurse at St. Joseph Hospital with at least 5 years of nursing experience and have functioned as a preceptor, nurse educator, charge nurse or some other leadership role.
Process: Any employee, physician, patient or volunteer may nominate. Recipients will be selected based on evidence provided by completion of the nomination criteria.
Award: Award winners will be announced and presented during Nurses’ Week.
Deadline: All nominations must be received by April 18, 2026.
Instructions: Please cite specific examples including patient and physician comments. Expectation is to have at least 3-4 paragraphs to support this nominee. Failure to provide multiple, specific examples may result in disqualification of nomination.
