2022 COMTO-NY Scholarship Timeline

COMTO-New York Scholarship Eligibility
 
1.     Must be studying business, engineering, public administration, transportation, urban studies or related fields
 
2.     Student from a historically marginalized population, who is graduating high school in 2022, and will be pursuing an Associate or Bachelor’s degree
 
3.     Student from a historically marginalized population, who is graduating high school in 2022, and will be enrolling in a trade/technical/vocational school
 
4.     Student from a historically marginalized population, currently enrolled in a post High School trade/technical/vocation school
 
5.     Student from a historically marginalized population, who is currently pursuing an Undergraduate/Graduate degree
 
6.     Candidates must be enrolled with a minimum of six (6) semester credit hours for the 2022 Fall Semester
 
7.     Candidates must reside within the New York Tri-State Region (NY, NJ, CT) and have a *2.5 or greater cumulative GPA
 
8.     Preference given to COMTO-NY members and/or family member of COMTO-NY members in good standing*

*NOTES: 
  • Member in Good Standing: Current with annual dues and does not have any outstanding balances to the chapter or national;
  • GPA requirement for each scholarship is listed in the scholarship criteria
All applications must be complete for consideration and must include all of the following:
  • Application: Complete scholarship application form
  • Essay: Essay introducing yourself and your transportation-related career goals (type-written, maximum 600 words, Times New Roman, 12 Point Font, Double-spaced). Please provide a detailed response for the following in your essay:
              For All Applicants:
    • Describe your most important achievement/accomplishment to date and explain how it has influenced your academic pursuit and future aspirations.”
    • “How has your family background influenced your perspective of the world?”
    • “How do you envision your field of study having an impact in the transportation industry?”
               For Graduate Applicants Only:
    • “What are the most important issues facing your field of study today and how do you see yourself addressing them?”
  • Resume: A resume that outlines your work, volunteer experience, leadership skills, and education
  • Recommendation Letters: Two (2) letters of recommendation from any of the following: a teacher or academic advisor, a community organization where you have volunteered, a personal reference from a person other than a relative
  • Proof of Enrollment: Degree program acceptance letter or a copy of your most recent academic transcript (university/high school). An unofficial transcript/report card will be accepted; however, accepted awardees may be required to submit an official transcript/report card prior to award distribution
  • Headshot: A high-resolution headshot of yourself in professional attire. If applicant is selected, this image may be used in COMTO-NY scholarship award announcements.

Scholarship will be awarded to recipients at the Annual Scholarship Luncheon to be held in June 2022. Attendance is strongly encouraged for all award recipients.  Information regarding the luncheon will be included in the award letter.
