Weaving Yarns: Decolonising Curatorial Practices

Weaving Yarns is a three-day series of creative consultation and collaboration sessions bringing together First Nations artists, curators, and arts workers in South Australia. The sessions centre First Nations knowledge, creative practice, and dialogue to explore curatorial approaches, representation, and future directions in contemporary arts and cultural spaces.

Participants are invited to engage flexibly:
· attending any part of the program,
· contributing in ways that feel comfortable, and
· choosing their level of participation.

Attendees may choose to attend 1, 2 or all days.
Program Format

  • Day 1: Tuesday 7 July
    Indigenous-led intercultural exchange and decolonising curatorial practices - Kat Bell's research consultation
  • Day 2: Wednesday 8 July
    Weaving Stories - A day of creative sharing through crochet weaving with Kat Bell
  • Day 3: Thursday 9 July
    Cultural Weaving with Sonya Rankine
Participation Style:
  • Drop-in / flexible attendance
  • Participants may come and go as needed
  • No requirement to attend full sessions or all days

Eligibility:

1. This program is only available to First Nations artists, arts workers, and curators of South Australia.
2. Regional artists and arts workers may be eligible for accommodation support to attend Day 1 of the program.
3. Participants may be eligible for a stipend to attend Day 1 of the program.

Costs:
  • 1. This program is free to take part in.
  • 2. Lunch will be provided on each day of the program.

Day 1 Honorarium

Day 1 of this program is an important part of Kat Bell's PhD Research.
To support her research and to enable as many participants as possible to take part in the program, a small honorarium of $75 is available (limited to 25 people).

To be eligible to receive the honorarium participants must register for Day 1 and attend the full day.
Details for payment of the honorarium will be gathered on the day of the program.

Regional Participants Accommodation Support

Regional Artists and Arts Workers (based in SA locations more than 1 hours travel from Adelaide) who attend Day 1 of the program may be eligible for up to 2 nights accommodation support in Adelaide (limited places).
