Welcome to the Envision Downtown Madison Survey!

This survey is part of a collaborative effort between Downtown Madison, Inc. (DMI) and the City of Madison to help shape the next chapter of Greater Downtown Madison’s growth and vitality. Your input will play a key role in developing the updated Downtown Area Plan and forward-thinking Economic Investment Strategy.

The Greater Downtown area is a vital economic engine for our region.

In fact, did you know:
  • It is home to more than 20% of the City’s population and more than 3,000 businesses.
  • There were an estimated 9.9M visits to Greater Downtown in 2024, resulting in over $313M spent in our local economy.
  • It makes up 4% of the city land area and 18.9% of the total citywide net taxes which supports City services and the funding of schools and other programs throughout the community.
Since the last Downtown Plan in 2012, much has changed and now is the time to create a new roadmap that ensures future investments contribute to a cohesive, thriving, and inclusive Downtown.

This survey is one of several ways for community members, businesses, and partners to share their perspectives. Your feedback will help shape priorities, guide investments, and inform the shared vision for a dynamic and economically resilient Downtown Madison.
