Expression of Interest

CAPHIA is currently seeking expressions of interest for the appointment of a CAPHIA Aboriginal Health Board Director. The term is for 2 years from date of appointment with the possibility of extension, in line with the Constitution rules.

CAPHIA recognises that strengthening public health education and workforce development in Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, and the Pacific requires centring Indigenous knowledge, leadership, and ways of knowing. Re-appointing an Indigenous Health Board Director will ensures Indigenous perspectives inform CAPHIA’s governance, strategic priorities, and partnerships, supporting our commitment to decolonising public health education and advancing health equity. This role will help support Indigenous voices shape the training of the future public health workforce and the systems that influence population health outcomes.

Associate Professor Courtney Ryder was the inaugural Aboriginal Health Director and established the Leaders and Educators in Aboriginal Public Health (LEIPH) Committee. The incumbent will also co-chair LEIPH with Māori Health Director Associate Professor Bevan Erueti.

This is an identified position. In accordance with the National Indigenous Australian Agency criteria, to be eligible, candidates must:
  1. be of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent; and
  2. identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person; and
  3. are accepted as such by the community in which they live or formerly lives.
In addition, to apply for this role applicants must:
  • Be an employee of a CAPHIA Full Member organisation.
  • Share alignment with the vision and values of CAPHIA and have capacity to devote time and energy to the position of a board director.
  • Have written support of their application from their institution's Head of School/Department or CAPHIA representative.
