GUIDELINES

The Lubbock Arts Festival will be held April 15-16, 2023 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, 1501 Mac Davis Lane. 

Contact information must be completed and entry uploaded using  this form. One entry per form.  

To promote the literary arts, the Lubbock Arts Festival will once again have a Young Writer’s Competition.

The Lubbock Arts Festival Young Writer’s competition is designed to:  1.)  encourage student’s interest in written expression as a hobby or career choice, 2.) to provide students the opportunity to practice writing skills,  3.) to recognize students who demonstrate skill in poetry and prose writing.

Eligibility:  The competition is open to any student, grades K-12, in Lubbock and the surrounding area (this includes public school students, private school students, and home schooled students).

Entries:  Original entries of prose and poetry will be accepted from students in grades K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12.  All entries should be written in English and must be the original work of the student.  Entries should be hand written or produced by the student on a computer. Entries should be no longer than one page (front only).  All entries must be accompanied by an entry form. The student’s name, TITLE OF WORK, SCHOOL NAME and GRADE LEVEL should be placed in the upper right hand corner of each entry.

Teachers may enter up to 5 entries per class and only one entry per person will be accepted.

Theme:  The theme of the 45th Annual Lubbock Arts Festival is  “The Beat Goes On!" – celebrating music in all its various forms. Tell us why music is important to you! What is your favorite type of music? Who is your favorite musician? How does music make you feel?

Judging:  Entries will be read and evaluated based on originality, knowledge of subject matter, effective use of language, clarity of thought, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and recognition of standard forms of poetry and prose. Entries will not be judged if they are not relevant to the theme.

Awards:  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards will be given in each category.

Deadline:  February 14, 2023

All winning entries will be on display at the Lubbock Arts Festival with their award ribbons.
