North Maple Regional Park is for everyone, dogs too!

Introduction

North Maple Regional Park (NMRP) (11085 Keele St.) is welcoming more visitors than ever before, thanks to the addition of more than 200 acres of new parkland, featuring trails, sports facilities, vibrant gathering spaces and more. As we continue to plan for the park’s future, we’re exploring a temporary off-leash dog area at NMRP to give your four-legged companions a place to play, roam and socialize.

From past engagements, we’ve heard that residents are excited about the possibility of a dedicated, fenced-in off-leash area where dogs and their families can exercise and enjoy the park safely. Through this survey, we’re looking to build on that feedback and better understand community preferences as planning continues.

About the proposed temporary off-leash dog area

A permanent, off-leash dog area is proposed as part of the long-term master plan for NMRP to serve residents and visitors from across the city and beyond. However, given the park’s size and our ambitious vision for its future, implementation of the master plan will take time, including locating, designing and constructing this permanent off-leash area within the park.

In the interim, the City is exploring the construction of a temporary off-leash dog area and seeking community input to inform its location and design. While a permanent off‑leash area is part of the park’s long‑term vision, this temporary space allows us to explore interest and understand community needs. The temporary off-leash dog area is planned to include fencing, shade, seating, a combination of wood chips and natural turf, nearby parking and more.
