The Kijani Collective is conducting this survey to understand how the Black community in Portland, Oregon, experiences and prepares for climate-related events such as extreme heat, extreme cold/freezing conditions, and poor air quality. This survey will help identify community needs during extreme weather events and ways to prepare for future climate challenges.
Who is the Kijani Collective?
We are a Black-led coalition working collaboratively across sectors to advance climate resilience, environmental justice, and economic empowerment for Black communities and solve problems in our own community. For example:
The Kijani Collective is conducting this survey to understand how the Black community in Portland, Oregon, experiences and prepares for climate-related events such as extreme heat, extreme cold/freezing conditions, and poor air quality. This survey will help identify community needs during extreme weather events and ways to prepare for future climate challenges.
Who is the Kijani Collective?
We are a Black-led coalition working collaboratively across sectors to advance climate resilience, environmental justice, and economic empowerment for Black communities and solve problems in our own community. For example:
- training people to influence government decisions,
- supporting Black-owned businesses that help the environment,
- building safe neighborhood spaces for emergencies, and
- connecting neighbors to services and resources.

Who are we hoping to hear from?
We invite all Black-identifying adults (18 and older) living in Portland to fill out this survey.
The survey should take 10-15 minutes to complete. Your responses are confidential. Thank you for helping us create a more climate-resilient future for Black Portland!
As an incentive for completing the survey, we are raffling off $150 gift cards as a symbol of our gratitude.
