Scholarship Application Deadline January 12, 2026 at 5pm ET

NLIHC believes in the active participation of low-income people in all areas of our work, including our annual Housing Policy Forum in Washington, DC. A limited number of scholarships are available for individuals and will cover lodging and travel costs.

Please note that scholarships are to support individuals who self-identify as low income only, not organizations. Scholarships are limited and in high demand. They will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Scholarship recipients must be current, dues paying NLIHC members and pay the $100 Forum registration fee.

TERMS

* 1. Please read the following expectations for receiving a hotel scholarship. Check the box to indicate your commitment to each.

Scholarship recipients are asked to attend all programming the week of the Policy Forum, including: 1) Pre-Forum Tenant Sessions on Tuesday, March 10 (starting at 2pm ET) and Wednesday, March 11; 2) Forum sessions on Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12; and 3) Capitol Hill Day on Friday, March 13 (concluding by 4pm ET or when you need to leave to travel home).

Only those who are current, dues paying NLIHC members and who have paid the $100 Forum registration fee are eligible to receive a scholarship. (To check your membership status or learn more about membership, contact membership@nlihc.org.)

All scholarships are for three nights of lodging at the Washington Hilton (checking in Tuesday, March 10 after 3pm ET and checking out Friday, March 13 by 11am ET). You must arrange lodging for any additional nights you plan to stay in DC.

If I opt into the travel reimbursement, I understand I must sign the separate travel reimbursement terms agreement issued by NLIHC and complete and return an expense form with receipts in order to receive my reimbursement. (See below for more info and opt out option.)

I understand if I do not respond to communication from NLIHC regarding the scholarships, adhering to all deadlines, I will forfeit my scholarship.

IMPORTANT SCHOLARSHIP DATES AND DEADLINES

December 22: Scholarship application opens.

January 12: Scholarship applications due.

January 16: Scholarship recipients notified. Additional applicants will be placed on a waitlist until January 30.

January 30: Deadline for scholarship recipients to pay NLIHC membership dues (if not already current) and the $100 Forum registration fee. After this date, those who have not paid will forfeit their scholarship to someone on the waitlist.

February 2: Individuals on the waitlist will be notified of whether we will be able to offer a scholarship to them.

February 17: Deadline for scholarship recipients notified on February 2 (from waitlist) to pay NLIHC membership dues (if not already current) and the $100 Forum registration fee.

March 27: Deadline for submitting travel reimbursement form.
