2026 Pediatrics Open Science Associate Editor Application
Pediatrics Open Science is seeking applicants for Associate Editors to serve on its Executive Editorial Board.
One of the first open access journals focused on improving the health of children, Pediatrics Open Science shares research and learnings from investigators worldwide.
Qualifications and responsibilities for Associate Editors are described below. We seek to uphold an editorial team that is inclusive and values discourse and learning from diverse perspectives.
The application deadline is April 17, 2026. Due to the vetting and approval process for editorial board positions, applicants can expect to hear back 3-6 months after the deadline passes. For questions, please contact PedsOS@aap.org.
Content and/or methodologic area of expertise relevant to child health, as evidenced by education, scholarly activity, and/or impact on health policy relevant to children.
Publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Experience on an editorial board and/or as an associate/assistant/section editor is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
Manage the processing and review of a subset of articles, including assigning reviewers, providing comments, and recommending article disposition.
Recruit articles for submission to Pediatrics Open Science from your colleagues and network.
Be an ambassador for the journal and its overall mission.
Share ideas for innovations in content and journal format.
Solicit ideas and opinions from colleagues regarding content and utility of the journal.
Declare a conflict of interest if asked to manage an article that in any substantive way would present a conflict.
Attend biweekly virtual Pediatrics Open Science Executive Editorial Board meetings.
Create new personal email address or use a non-institutional email address for all journal correspondence.
*Appointments are made on the basis of knowledge, expertise, and interest. The AAP treats all applicant materials as confidential. Applications, CVs, and other documents will be kept secure and will not be shared with anyone except designated AAP staff and the editorial leadership.
**The AAP limits leadership roles to one per member at a time. If you currently hold an AAP leadership role, you will be required to relinquish the role if appointed to the editorial board. (For example, executive committee roles on committees/sections/councils and editorial board roles are considered leadership roles.)
