Tractor Safety Awareness Training for Children 14 - 17 years

Wicklow Local Community Safety Partnership, with funding awarded under the Farmer Safety Open Call 2026 by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, is pleased to offer free Tractor Safety Awareness Training for children aged 14 years and older.

This course will be provided by FRS Training and will take place in the Hillbrook Hub, Hillbrook Lower, Coolboy

This one-day certified course is designed to introduce young tractor drivers to the principles of safe and competent tractor operation. The training aims to increase awareness of tractor safety, promote good driving practices, and help participants develop the knowledge needed to operate tractors responsibly.

· Tractor Control
· Throttles, Clutch, Brakes, Handbrake, Gears, Hydraulic Levers
· PTP Lever/switch, Dash Controls, Indicators, Lights
· Mirrors, Differential Lock, Pick up Hitch, Fuel Stop/cut off
· Tractor Checks
· Suitable Clothing and Footwear
· Operators Manual
· Pre-start checks, (Oil, Water, Diesel, Lights and Tyres)
· Safe stop procedure
· Safe Position in a Tractor
· Using hand supports getting in and out of Tractor
· Adjusting seat to operate Tractor Comfortable
· Adjust mirrors to have clear rear view
· What not to have on cab floor
· How to keep floors, doors, pedals and boots clean
· Importance of not using mobile phone while driving
· How to watch out for people, obstacles and blind spots
· How to take time to clean windows/mirrors for visibility

· Parking a Tractor in a safe area and keeping visual contact with tractor drivers
· How to use horn in the Tractor to warn or stop drivers
