Purpose

To provide information about the ‘guiding principles’ in the new Children and Young People (Safety and Support) Act 2025. This legislation is expected to start next year (mid-2027).

To engage with carers and collect new insights and experiences to influence the implementation of the guiding principles in the new legislation.

Connecting Foster and Kinship Carers South Australia (CFKC) will also use existing feedback previously provided – the purpose of this document is to provide an additional opportunity ahead of the upcoming consultation.

Note that the information contained in this document is for consultation purposes. CFKC will develop more thorough guidance that reflects the regulations and policies developed by the Department for Child Protection (DCP) prior to the commencement of the new legislation.
