As part of implementing the Westport Plan (adopted in 2019), we invite you to share your ideas and feedback regarding the creation of a zoning overlay district for Westport. This overlay will establish consistent, clear standards for new development fronting on Westport Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, addressing building height, setbacks, facade design, and land use.

WHY ARE WE CREATING AN OVERLAY DISTRICT?
This initiative is one of many implementation efforts recommended in the adopted Westport Plan, and is led by the Westport Regional Business League. Many of the stakeholders originally involved in the creation and adoption of the plan are involved, and the process is being facilitated by Multistudio and Historic Kansas City, with assistance from KC Planning staff. The professional team intends to work with the Westport community over the course of 6 months to establish the overlay district, beginning in January 2023. We are reviewing and building upon the plan’s recommendations with community members to translate policy into clear standards for development in Westport.

WHERE CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?
The presentation boards from the first community open house can be found online at westportkcmo.com.  They contain more information about each topic we are focusing on for the overlay district, including an overview of what the Westport Plan recommends. If you have additional questions, comments, or concerns regarding the overlay district, please reach out to Kim Kimbrough at: kim@wrbl.org.  For more information about what overlay districts are and how they work, please visit: https://www.kcmo.gov/city-hall/departments/city-planning-development/overlay-districts
