Since 2019, Wagoner Public Schools has spent almost $30 million on new construction or remodeling exisiting structures. Most of that funding came from our most recent bond, supplemented by COVID, Insurance, and Building Fund money.

Currently, WPS is considering a new Building Bond Proposal for the fall of 2026. This bond proposal would continue the work begun in Phase 1 and would include the following projects:

- Complete 12 Classrooms at Ellington Early Childhood School. This will be in the form of 2 "pods" of 6 classrooms each for 2nd Grade, with some classrooms in each pod designated as "Safe Rooms."

- New Cafeteria Seating at William R. Teague Elementary. The new area will accommodate 300-350 students and will be located at the back of the existing kitchen area.

- A New Show Barn located north of the existing Agriculture Education Building.

- A New Science Classroom and Labs at Wagoner High School, which will include 4-6 classrooms and 2-3 labs.

WPS is seeking to pass a bond in the amount of $35 to $40 million to be paid back over 10 years. While this is an increase over the 2019 bond of $21 million, the 2026 bond will not result in an increase in property taxes; instead, it will be funded by maintaining the current property tax rate.

The increased revenue needed for the 2026 Bond is due to inflation in building and construction expenses in general, as well as a new law requiring "safe rooms" in new construction. 2019 costs were approximately $185 per square foot; current estimates for this construction range from $350 to $450 per square foot. Additionally, our district valuation has also increased which enables us to keep this bond as a 10 year bond.
