Consultation: Proposed Revisions to Standards of Practice
Welcome to the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO) public consultation portal.
As part of our commitment to public safety, patient privacy, and effective healthcare regulation, we are seeking feedback on proposed revisions to two of our Standards of Practice. We invite our registered members, health system partners, and the public to review the proposed changes and share their insights.
Overview of Proposed Changes
Standard for Fees and Billing:
The College proposes removing the mandatory requirement for practitioners to include a patient’s address and telephone number on financial receipts. This revision is designed to protect patient privacy and reduce the risk of harm if a receipt is lost. It also aligns our requirements with the standard invoicing practices of most other regulated health professions in Ontario.
Standard for Infection Control:
The College proposes transitioning to a risk-based approach for biohazardous waste management under Principle 3. Rather than a blanket mandate requiring biohazard containers in all clinics, practitioners will be required to understand the technical definition of biohazardous waste, assess the specific waste generated in their practice, and implement compliant disposal processes accordingly.
How to Participate:
We value your perspective on whether these changes effectively balance clinical reality, privacy, and public protection.
