Safe Sleep Champions will help advance the SUID Prevention Program goals of increasing provider awareness and knowledge of fatality review and fostering connections between AAP chapters, pediatricians, and fatality review systems/teams. The SSCN will include a national network of 20 AAP chapters and champions to advocate for the utilization of fatality review, demonstrate how fatality review data can lead to positive change, and act as safe sleep and fatality review subject matter experts to the chapter membership.
SUID Prevention Champion Responsibilities and Duties:
- Watch the SSCN Kick-Off Webinar Recording (link to be provided in the coming weeks)
- In partnership with the chapter staff, co-design and facilitate one chapter-wide webinar in Spring 2026 with a focus on sudden unexpected infant death and/or other injury topics informed by your fatality review findings in your state
- Advocate for pediatrician involvement in fatality review and strengthening connections between the AAP chapter members and CDR/FIMR coordinator
- Contribute two brief awareness-building articles or messages for chapter communications about safe sleep and/or fatality review processes and insights
- Attend 1 mid-point check-in with SUID Prevention Program staff beginning in Spring 2026
- Provide a brief final report by June 22, 2026 (template to be provided)
- Other duties as requested and agreed
Anticipated Volunteer Time Commitment: Approximately
5 hours per month for champion meetings, program correspondence, and curriculum and resource development as needed.
