What is Asset Management?
Asset Management is the process of planning, maintaining, renewing, and investing in the infrastructure that residents rely on every day. It helps ensure municipal assets remain safe, reliable, and sustainable while making the best use of taxpayer dollars. Although much of this work already happens behind the scenes, Asset Management supports everyday life from turning on the tap and driving on local roads to enjoying parks, recreation facilities, and other municipal services.
The Municipality of Kincardine manages a wide range of infrastructure, including roads, bridges, sidewalks, water and wastewater systems, stormwater infrastructure, parks, trails, municipal buildings, fleet vehicles, and other public facilities. By monitoring the condition, age, performance, and risk of these assets, the Municipality can make informed decisions about when to maintain, repair, or replace infrastructure.
This long-term approach helps extend the life of municipal assets, reduce unexpected failures, prioritize investments, and ensure infrastructure continues to meet the needs of our growing community. Ultimately, Asset Management is about making informed decisions today to provide safe, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure for current and future generations.
