Kildare Meath Grid Upgrade Community Benefit Fund
Help Shape its Impact!
EirGrid is the national government agency which develops, manages, and operates Ireland’s electricity grid. EirGrid will be establishing the Kildare Meath Community Benefit Fund in recognition of the importance of working closely with communities in the completion of the Kildare-Meath Grid Upgrade. This project will add a high-capacity 400 kV underground electricity connection between Dunstown substation in Kildare and Woodland substation in Meath while helping to move electricity more effectively to the east of the country. It will also allow EirGrid to better distribute electricity within the electricity grid in Meath, Kildare and surrounding counties. More information on the project can be found on EirGrid’s website
here.
The Kildare Meath Community Benefit Fund will provide €4,610,000 in grants to local community groups, not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises that operate or service communities within 2km of this new electricity infrastructure, and who can deliver projects that will create positive social and environmental impacts. The overall aim of the fund will be to increase public and environmental wellbeing in the community and to leave a positive legacy.
The funding will be delivered in 3 phases. The first phase of funding is €1,844,000 and will be equally distributed under the following 3 streams to projects which align with these streams;
Community Stream - €614,667 - Phase 1 Funding
Sustainability Stream - €614,667 - Phase 1 Funding
Biodiversity Stream - €614,666 - Phase 1 Funding
