The City of Bozeman is updating its 2016 Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP or Plan) to serve as an overarching guiding document for all Forestry Division operations, planning, and public outreach. Building on the progress made since 2016, the new Plan will set priorities for tree planting, maintenance, staffing, budgeting, and community engagement.
This update represents an important step in creating and maintaining a resilient urban forest and will evaluate the current conditions of the urban forest, develop canopy goals, establish implementation strategies, and provide education about the importance of urban forestry. Public input is important to ensure that the updated UFMP reflects and addresses the needs, concerns, and ideas of Bozeman’s residents.
The urban forest consists of all the trees, shrubs, and vegetation within the City including parks, along roadways, private yards, and natural areas. A healthy and connected tree canopy helps make Bozeman a better place to live and visit. Caring for the urban forest is imperative to create a sustainable, healthy, and vibrant city environment.
