Stakeholder Consultation - Remnant Forest Protection & Tuckers Nob Forestry Operations Compartments 8, 10, 11, 12, 17 18

About this survey: This survey relates to the original forest that survives inside plantations, and forestry operations planned for Tuckers Nob State Forest within the plantations of compartments 8, 10, 11, 12, 17, and 18 (250 hectares). These public forests are managed by the Forestry Corporation of New South Wales (FCNSW), with the logging areas approved by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, under the Minister for Agriculture. Research undertaken by Dr Tim Cadman, in collaboration with citizen scientists and local communities has found original forest (forest remnants, or remnants) inside these areas that has survived from before plantation establishment. Dr Cadman has been engaging with FCNSW to develop processes and practices to protect these areas. This is engagement has now ended, and logging will commence in September. The survey questions reflect, to the best understanding of Dr Cadman, FCNSW's position on the management of the original forest that survives within the broader plantation estate, and inside the planned logging areas in Tuckers Nob specifically. For further detail, please have a look at Dr Cadman and colleagues' preliminary findings on the situation generally, and in Tuckers Nob 8-18: "Community and Scientists Work Together to Identify Koalas Within the Plantations Inside the Proposed Great Koala National Park in New South Wales, Australia," and FCNSW's Protocol and Toolbox Talk documents : Protocol - "Identification and boundary management guidance for native vegetation in hardwood plantations" (please refer especially to Figure 1) and Toolbox talk - "Toolbox Talk: Native remnant trees in authorised hardwood plantations."

The survey will ask you to indicate your specific interest in forestry, where you live, and continues with a series of questions relating to FCNSW's engagement over remnant protection, and the upcoming logging. You will be asked to decide if you are happy (agree), neutral (neither happy nor unhappy), or disagree (unhappy), with FCNSW's response. There are opportunities for comment with each question. The survey can take as little as 15 minutes, or more, depending on how much you want to comment. Please answer all questions. If you are not sure how to answer, or do not have an opinion one way or the other, please select neutral (neither agree nor disagree). Your answers will help guide further engagement with FCNSW on these matters.
