Having a robust procedure behind the maintenance of our Credibility Tools is critical to ensuring that they provide trustworthy definitions of credible practice that are developed transparently through global multistakeholder processes, and are informed by real-world experience.
We are seeking input on the content of the new
ISEAL Credibility Tools Maintenance Procedure to ensure it incorporates good practice, balances efficiency and rigour, and outlines clear roles and responsibilities.

About the procedureISEAL Credibility Tools Maintenance Procedure - Terms of referenceISEAL’s Credibility Tools provide definitions of credible practice for sustainability systems. This procedure defines the process for the maintenance, review, and revision of these tools, namely the ISEAL Credibility Principles, which define the core values of credible and effective sustainability systems, and the ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Sustainability Systems, which defines good practices across core areas of a sustainability system. It defines the procedures to be followed for review and revision of ISEAL’s Credibility Tools, and mechanisms to maintain the effectiveness of ISEAL’s Credibility Tools outside of the review and revision cycle. It also describes the frequency in which the procedure will be updated, and how stakeholders can provide feedback about the procedure or how it is applied.Background The
ISEAL Code Development Procedure was first published in 2010 and applied to the initial development and revision of the ISEAL Codes of Good Practice. Since then, the ISEAL Codes of Good Practice have been revised and integrated into the singular ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Sustainability Systems (‘the ISEAL Code’). We now need an updated procedure that covers the maintenance of the ISEAL Code, and also brings the ISEAL Credibility Principles into its scope.
The draft ISEAL Credibility Tools Maintenance Procedure has been developed in conjunction with the ISEAL Technical Committee. It is based on the ISEAL Code Development Procedure, incorporating learnings from its applications for the revision and integration of the ISEAL Code and the revision of the ISEAL Credibility Principles. It has also been drafted to align with relevant good practices from the ISEAL Code.
